Hypnotherapy, Counselling & CBT

Is hypnosis safe?

Yes, completely safe.  Hypnosis is simply the replication of our natural trance state that we find ourselves in many times each day. When we reproduce this focused state on the therapists couch, we have the ability to create positive change in a calm and relaxed way.

What is CBT?

CBT is a talking therapy that works with our thought processes, and over time can be used to change the way we feel, think and behave.

How many sessions are needed for CBT?

Most people need around 10 – 20 sessions, although this is dependent on individual circumstances. Session last for an hour, usually once a week.

Who is CBT for?

CBT is usually recommended for anxiety and depression, whether it’s a chronic problem or a response to a event/situation.

Who is counselling for?

For those who:

  • have experienced bereavement, separation or divorce
  • are experiencing relationship difficulties
  • feel depressed
  • feel anxious
  • experience a lack of self confidence or self esteem
  • feel stressed
  • feel they are being bullied
  • would like to explore personal growth
  • ……and others issues that you would like to bring

What will happen at this consultation?

During our initial consultation we will start  by taking a few details and once we have discussed the reason for your visit, we will tailor the therapy to you and your needs.  At this point, we can discuss the number of sessions you will require.

For how long will my consultation/session last for?

The free initial consultation will last around 45 minutes with each subsequent session lasting around 50 minutes.  Smoking cessation lasts between 1 and a half to 2 hours.

We treat all information disclosed to us as confidential, any information you choose to give to us is held within the laws of data protection act. We abide by the regulations set down within the ethic frameworks of both the BACP and the AfSFH.  Should we feel a client is either a danger to themselves or others, we may be obliged to inform an outside agency, eg. a GP, but would whenever possible, discuss this with you first.

What is the cost of a session?

The initial consultation is free, please view our costs section for all of our prices.  Payment is due at the end of each session, we accept cash, debit/credit cards or cheque.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions is really dependent on the issue you have come to resolve.  However, as a rough guide from a hypnotherapy perspective; stop smoking is 1 extended session, simple phobias are 4 sessions including the free initial consultation with therapy for depression or anxiety taking up to 10 or 12 sessions.

Can I come with a friend/partner?

Yes, most clients however attend on their own as they feel more comfortable discussing personal issues on a one to one basis. On the other hand, if it helps you feel more at ease, then it is perfectly fine to have someone come along with you.

Do I need to tell you about my problem before I see you?

No, we do not have to discuss anything before we meet.  We can, of course, chat over the phone or by email if you so wish but this is entirely your decision.

How do I change/cancel my appointment?

Please allow 24 hours notice if you need to change or cancel an appointment.  Please telephone if this is necessary.
