Hello I’m Paul.
I hold a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, Level 5 and an Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. The training focussed on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) alongside other forms of counselling such as person-centred and psychodynamic and with these different techniques came an awareness of the holistic needs of the client. This includes the cognitive, emotional and behavioural and working alongside a counsellor can help your evolving needs and facilitate your own healing process so that you can become more fully yourself.
My professional body is the National Counselling Society (NCS) which is an accredited member of the Professional Standards Authority, along with The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I abide by their strict ethical code of conduct. I hold full professional liability insurance and have a current enhanced DBS (previously CRB) in place. I am committed to ongoing professional development and regularly attend supervision (as required by my professional body) which should reassure you I am receiving support as I in turn support you.
I am passionate about helping others and gained a great deal of valuable experience of life problems and challenges in a varied working life which included a career in the medical services of the Royal Navy, and the emergency services over many years and in the pastoral encounter of ministry. I grew in my belief that within us is the capacity to have good mental health and as I counsellor I feel privileged to help you promote that regardless of your age or gender, occupation, orientation or where you are in life and for this to take place in a confidential and safe environment.
There are many different reasons you might be considering counselling and I know that often the first step is the most difficult in deciding whether to make an appointment. I can assure you will be always shown unconditional positive regard, congruence and empathy which are essential elements of therapy. The Horizon Counselling website explains what it is possible to help you with, so if you are looking for help because of anxiety, trauma, PTSD, depression, bereavement or something else which is troubling you, please do make contact so we can explore together, look at new approaches and help your problems to become ones you will have the resources and inner strength to deal with.
I look forward to warmly meeting you and offering a trained, listening ear in confidence so that life can once again be meaningful and enjoyable.
