Hello, I’m Suzie Clancy.
I am a self-employed counsellor working alongside Horizon counselling.
I completed my Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling from The Iron Mill College in 2017, where I was fortunate to study under excellent tutors with a wealth of experience in many areas. These areas included low self-esteem, depression, stress, trauma, suicide, bereavement, anxiety, phobias, relationship breakdowns and many more. I have been working as a student counsellor at Broadreach House’s training department in Plymouth since November 2016.
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and abide by their strict Ethical Framework (2016). I am fully insured and have an enhanced DBS check in place. I attend regular supervision and training to ensure I continue to offer the highest quality and most ethical counselling possible.
Prior to my counselling training I gained a BSc Psychology degree from Royal Holloway, University of London. Since then I have lived in Australia and travelled New Zealand and Fiji, and am now very happy to be living in lovely Devon. I have volunteered with The Samaritans and have worked extensively with elderly and disabled residents of Plymouth over the past few years. My passion is offering authentic, warm and non-judgemental counselling, and I relish developing therapeutic relationships.
I offer a safe space to explore the different parts of yourself and your life, without judgement or unwanted advice. I work with a humanistic philosophy that encourages your autonomy. I am not the expert in anybody’s life, instead I am trained to listen fully and offer specialised care and support. This can enable and empower you to explore and address the root causes of your difficulties, maximising your long-term development and happiness.
I admire the healing power of the therapeutic process, and I am constantly humbled by the progress clients make in improving their lives. I respect their courage to trust me with their painful experiences, and I honour their trust placed in me with great importance. I appreciate how difficult it can feel to pick up the phone to get in touch, but I also know first-hand that that first step could be the start of a life changing journey. I will gladly accompany you on whichever path life leads you down, with warmth, humility and sensitivity. A problem shared is a problem halved when shared with the right person. I hope to meet you soon.
