There are lots of different myths and ideas about what happens in a Hypnotherapy session and the type of person a hypnotherapist is but are they right?
These views come from lots of different places including the TV and now social media and can be anything from dancing like a chicken, swinging watches, people slumped in armchairs to the hypnotherapist having control over you and being able to get you do or act in a way that you wouldn’t normally.
Of course people who train in hypnosis can help you change your thinking and some of us can perform some party tricks and have a very short term affect on people. But the truth is and I spend a lot of time trying to change peoples perception and views around this, Hypnotherapy is a very powerful tool that helps lots and lots of people think and feel differently and enable them to feel more in control and empowered within their lives.
It is about empowering people within their own minds, a hypnotherapist doe not take control of you and they are unable to persuade you to do anything that you don’t really want to.
It is a very powerful sub-conscious process that is used around the world including our own NHS! It helps a wide range of people improve their feelings and emotions in a positive and constructive way.
When looking for a Hypnotherapist or to undertake hypnotherapy, I would recommend that you look in your local area for people who have experience and offer you a free initial consultation to discuss what you would like to change, allow you to ask any questions you may have and meet with the therapist to ensure you feel comfortable.
Some questions you may want to ask are,
1. what experience do you have in supporting people with my condition.
2. how long have you been qualified.
3. what are your success rates
4. how many sessions do they suggest it may take
5. what could you do in-between sessions to improve the results.
